REBUILDING TOGETHER’S NATIONAL REBUILDING DAY

Ten projects in one day. Ten lives changed in one day. 200 volunteers making a difference – all on April 24, 2010.

Rebuilding Together Atlanta is definitely on the move. With a long history of serving Atlanta’s senior homeowners, this organization is focused on becoming the number one change agent in this category.

http://www.rebuildingtogether-atlanta.org

But it only happens with YOU. You see, RTA (Rebuilding Together Atlanta) is a volunteer organization. We help low income homeowners retain their dignity by helping them stay in their homes – homes that have major problems that make them all but uninhabitable. Leaks in the roof, holes in the floor, windows that are unsafe, walls that are crumbling, siding that has not been painted in years, stairs that are no longer safe to climb and door locks that no longer lock. Many issues that the homeowner cannot manage to fix… but we can. YOU CAN. Mostly all the work is completed with volunteers. In fact, we had close to 1,500 volunteers doing work last year, and will need many more during 2010. We need YOU.

Please come and be a part of this magnificent day. In 8 hours, we can make many dreams come true. Your efforts can revitalize a community, and you can make a difference.

We need your support. In the West End and West View communities alone, we have plans to complete more than 20 projects this year. The needs are immense. But together, we can make a difference.

What can you do?
Sponsor a house for National Rebuilding Day

Provide volunteer support – we need 10 to 20 on each house! If you can provide a skilled lead person for your group, that helps too! If not, we will provide one for you.

Support RTA all year long. We are not a one-day organization, although this one day WILL be a lot of fun. We take on projects throughout the year, and we need volunteers all the time. So no matter what your talents are, we need you.

Provide funding to help grow RTA and finish the house project
$1500 makes a difference
$2500 makes a HUGE difference
$5000 or more and you can change many lives!

Please consider this request to support us during the year, or on National Rebuilding Day! With you, Atlanta will be a better place.

How do I start?

I found the answer!

So over the past year my company has been growing, my client roster is buzzing and my clients are getting their shine in the media. This is a good thing! However, I'm constantly juggling projects, ripping and running, on conference calls and most recently, I've been sleeping with my laptop and two cell phones in the bed with me! Not only is this insane, but it's not healthy. Naturally with a hectic lifestyle and the responsibility of running a business, managing my personal (financial) affairs, and trying to have some kind of social life, proper eating habits can quickly fall to the wayside. To curtail that...I found the answer.

You see, I like food. Let me clarify. I don't hoard boxes of Tastykakes in my pantry or stalk the delivery guy from Piu Bella (great pizza!). I mean I enjoy a great meal with family or friends and I savor all the ingredients and how they marry in order to create a delectable experience. Okay...I'm back. But what I recently failed to realize is that food and nutrition don't always go hand in hand. Because of my crazy-busy life, I was eating lots of food with little nutritional value. After several months of this, looking in the mirror wasn't pretty. But I found the answer!

I decided that if I was going to be the best publicist I could be for myself AND my clients, I needed to walk, talk and look the part. The latter was seriously lacking. I made a concrete decision to really educate myself about food, nutrition, healthy living and fitness. After weeks upon weeks of getting into the groove of making smart food choices at mealtime, I realized that the weight I'd packed on wasn't going to move unless I started to move. Working on a computer 24/7 doesn't do much for your abs and glutes--if you catch my drift. I needed to get on a serious fitness program and make some serious power moves.

And I did! I joined LA Fitness in Buckhead after months of speeding by it on my way to the grocery store. I finally went in on a random Monday and several credit card transactions later, I had a membership and a personal trainer (who they call "the Assassin" by the way). Since I've joined I'm in the gym 3-4 times a week and working with Alton twice a week. I feel AMAZING. My energy level is through the roof, I'm eating great food that not only compliments my health, but also all the work I'm doing in the gym. What's more, my mind is so clear and I feel a tremendous sense of balance. So on those days when all my clients need something done, I can manage it--and sometimes I'm even nice to them!

All this to say, that old addage is absolutely correct: "A healthy body...something something something...a healthy mind." Exercise, proper eating, and plenty of rest is the answer. I have a long road ahead of me, but when I really think about it...that's actually the best part!
